Gamepad Tester

Connect a controller, press any button on it, and watch every input your browser receives — buttons, trigger values, stick trails and an adjustable deadzone. Supports several controllers at once. Everything is processed on this page; nothing is uploaded.

No controller detected yet. Connect a gamepad via USB or Bluetooth, then press any button on it — browsers only reveal a controller after its first input.

Buttons & triggers

Cells light up while the browser reports the button held. Triggers (LT / RT) show their analog value.

Sticks & deadzone

The dot is the raw stick position; the hollow ring is where a game sees it after the deadzone is applied. A small rest offset inside the dashed circle reads as centered.

Guide

How to test your gamepad

  1. Connect the controller

Plug in over USB or pair via Bluetooth. Adapters that act as a regular USB HID gamepad work too.
  2. Press any button on it

Browsers only reveal a controller after its first input — this is a privacy rule, so a freshly connected pad stays invisible until you press something.
  3. Watch the panel react

Buttons light as the browser receives them, triggers fill with their analog value, and both sticks draw a live trail with their exact axis numbers.
  4. Try the deadzone slider

See when a small rest offset stops reaching your games, and use the dedicated joystick check for a scored drift and range measurement.

FAQ

Gamepad tester questions

What does this gamepad tester check?

It shows what your browser receives from a connected controller: which of the 17 standard buttons are held, the analog value of both triggers, and the live position of both sticks — including a motion trail and where the stick sits relative to your chosen deadzone. It observes browser input; it does not diagnose hardware faults inside the controller.

How do I test my controller?

Connect it by USB or Bluetooth, then press any button on the controller. Browsers deliberately hide gamepads until their first input, so a silent controller looks disconnected. Once it appears in the list, select it and press buttons or move sticks — every received input lights up immediately.

Why does nothing happen when I plug it in?

Three common causes: the controller has not been pressed yet (press any button), the browser lacks Gamepad API support (this page will have told you), or the page is not on a secure connection — the API requires https or localhost. Controllers needing proprietary dongles or drivers may not appear at all; that is a browser limitation, not something this page can fix.

What does the deadzone slider do?

It draws the deadzone as a dashed circle and shows where a game would place your stick after applying it. Small rest offsets inside the circle read as perfectly centered, which is why many games ignore a tiny drift. The slider is a visual aid for understanding your stick — it does not change controller or system settings.

Can I test more than one controller?

Yes. Every detected controller gets a chip above the panel; select one to inspect it while the others stay connected. Switching is instant, so you can compare two sticks or check a player-two pad.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

The page adapts to small screens, and mobile browsers that expose the Gamepad API will detect controllers (typically over Bluetooth). A bare touch screen has no sticks or buttons to report, so without a paired controller you will see the no-controller notice instead of fake results.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Reading the Gamepad API happens entirely in your browser; no button presses, stick positions or device identifiers are stored or transmitted — there is no analytics, no account and no server-side tool storage. If that ever changes, this page and the privacy note in the footer will say so plainly.
